Effect of non-rubber composition on solid natural rubber properties

Natural rubber is made from latex, where some of the non-rubber ingredients are left in the solid natural rubber.

The general natural rubber hydrocarbon content in the solid rubber has 92%~95%, non-rubber components account for 5%~8%, different production methods, different varieties, non-rubber hydrocarbon content is also different.

  1. Water, raw glue is too much water, easy to mold in the storage process, but also affect the processing of rubber, such as for example, mixing mixture is not easy to disperse, easy to produce bubbles in the pressing process, bubbles or sponge in the sulfide process, water within 1% can be removed in the process of rubber processing.
  2. Ash. During the solidification of latex, most of the ash is left in the whey and removed, and only a few is transferred into dry glue. Ash is some inorganic salt substances, the main composition is calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, iron, phosphorus, etc., in addition to the water absorption will reduce the electrical insulation of products, but also because of trace copper, manganese and other variable ions, the aging speed of rubber is greatly accelerated, therefore, copper, manganese content must be strictly controlled.
  3. Protein, and the nitrogen-containing compounds in natural rubber all belong to proteins. Protein has the anti-aging effect, such as removing protein, the glue aging process will be accelerated. Alkaline nitride and alcohol-soluble proteins in proteins promote sulfization. However, protein in rubber is easy to corrupt and produce a bad smell, and due to the water absorption of protein and the electrical insulation of the product is decreased. When the protein content is high, it will lead to higher hardness of sulfide gel and increased thermogenesis.
  4. Acetone extract, it is some resinous substances, mainly some advanced fatty acids and sterols. Advanced fatty acids are a sulfation active agent that can promote vulcanation and can increase the plasticity of the adhesive material. And sterols and some strong reducing substances have the effect of preventing aging.
  5. Water solvent, it is mainly class and acidic substances, they have a great impact on the plasticity and water absorption of raw gum. Therefore, attention should be paid to the role of water-soluble products for water resistance and insulation products.
